Writing Numbers

We learned a new game called Race to Trace (thanks Shari Sloane from kidscount1234).  Students worked on number identification, dice dot recognition (number sets), and numeral writing.  The Kinders were excited to bring the game home to play against their family members!

Math Tools

We enjoyed discovering some of the math tools we will be using this year.  It was also a great way to practice working in groups.

Marshmallow Toes

We have been talking about the importance of walking quietly in the hallways so learning is not interrupted.  We sorted quiet and loud noises, learned a poem and created marshmallow toes of our own (they even tasted yummy)!

Above the line/below the line

Today we talked about behaviors/choices that are above the line and below the line. We also read Lilly's Purple Plastic Purse and discussed the choices she made that were above/below the line. We also shared what we noticed Lilly did to get back above the line when she made a below the line choice. Here is the anchor chart we started today. We will continue to work on this on Friday and next week too.
Here is a great group of active listeners.

Busy First Friday of Kindergarten

Today we began our morning by meeting Mr. Porter (school psychologist) at our Impact Academy Community Meeting. We also heard from Ms. Thoen (5th grade anchor) and Mrs. M Johnson (3rd grade anchor) teachers give an update from our Kingsley Shores residents. They made back to school gifts for each IA kiddo.
We also worked in our letter stations and had our brain break outside this morning. Have an enjoyable weekend families.

First Day of Kindergarten 15-16

What a fun day we had.  We read many great books, made new friends, played with magic play dough, discovered our classroom games and activities and decorated our new locker tags.
We are so happy to have each of our new friends in our class!

Habitat Experience

We have been studying habitats and the basic needs of living things, especially clean water.  We were very fortunate that the YMCA Camp Streefland is just a short walk down the path and they offered us the chance to bring in field trip experts from Three Rivers Park District to learn more while being part of an outdoor classroom.  We saw deer, frogs, turtles, a beaver dam, several kinds of birds and a wetland of wonderful views!

The Works Field Trip

Kindergarteners discovered the wonderful world of science and engineering this week.  They learned how to make glow in the dark slime, explore light and heat sensors, maneuver pulleys, build structures, play music on a stringless harp and create and race wheel vehicles.  Thank you to all of the wonderful chaperones that helped our day run smoothly.
