Photo Booth Fun

Merry Christmas!!!

Birthday Bags

The kids enjoyed making birthday bags for kids who need to spend their birthday in the hospital. They made them and then filled them with little presents. Each of them has such a passion for helping others.

Holiday Family Traditions

Kindergarteners completed a holiday show and tell sheet at home with their families about what holiday they celebrate, a favorite holiday dish, song, tradition and activity.  It was fun to hear them all share their favorites.  They also brought in a photo of something special for the holidays.  We saw some Elves on the Shelf, trees, cookie decorating, family pictures and a picture of one friend ringing the red kettle!  By the way....13 out of our 24 students picked Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer as their favorite song!  We were able to do a gallery walk around the room checking out the photos up close.

Bridging the Generations

We have started our first service learning experience by doing a kickoff week full of great books and transforming ourselves into an older version of ourselves (see kickoff week picture of our Impact teachers).  Our biggest treat was having a magnificent group of men from the Burnsville Football Team come teach us about how much each generation can impact another.  Current Head coach Tyler Krebs, former head coach Dick Hanson and 3 of next year's captains came to visit.  183 Impact students sat in awe of the wonderful stories each person shared about what their relationship with each other has done for them.  Students were able to reflect on what was shared and are inspired to impact the older generation during our service learning experience in January and part of February.  Here is a link to their powerful story on Kare 11.

Climb Theater Teaches about Resiliency

Climb Theater actors came in and taught our Kinders about resiliency by doing a very engaging skit.  Kids were able to help create ideas that everyone can use to change their negative thoughts into a positive attitude.  Some ideas they came up with were to hug a stuffed animal, talk to a friend or a trusted grown up and draw a picture!

Symbols of America

Kindergarteners learned about several Symbols that represent America by reading various books, watching some video clips and viewing some photographs of the symbols.  We created a book of our learning and enjoyed sharing them with our 2nd grade buddies!

Our Thanksgiving Feast

After learning about the first Thanksgiving, Kindergarteners were asked to bring in a cupful of something to share.  Each Kindergartener was able to contribute to the feast.  We stuffed our harvest into cornucopias (sugar cones) and enjoyed a meal together.  After our feast, we gathered to share what we were thankful for.  It was a fun celebration.

Textured Pumpkins

Kindergarteners learned about the sense of touch by using various textures to create a colorful pumpkin.  They look amazing!

Retelling Anchor Charts

This week we used anchor charts like these to help us retell the story after we read it. This is another tool (along with the retelling rope) to help the kids as they use their comprehension skills to retell the story.

50th Day Fun Continued...

We learned about records and record players and then we showed off our dance moves at a sock hop.

Hula hooping is not easy to do, especially for the teacher!

We pulled out the original Dubble Bubble bubble gum and counted how many of us could blow a bubble.  2 of us did it (1 was the teacher) and 19 were "so close"!
We made ourselves in the 1950's and for this, everyone could blow a bubble!

Then we enjoyed rotating through some stations:  Bowling, making creations with 50 Legos, root beer floats, graphing our bubble blowing results and creating a venn diagram comparing the 1950's to 2014.

We ended our day at the Drive In Theater watching the classic Casey Jones Show!

Celebrating the 50th Day of Kindergarten

We made 50th day of school books and read them to our second grade buddies.

Sense of Sight

We talked about how our sense of sight can help us learn about the world.  We took our Sight Observations Journal outside for a nature hunt.  The students were able to LOOK around and draw the different kinds of things their journal asked of them.  It looked therapeutic for some of them to draw things from nature.  The last page was a free page to draw one more thing that they saw.  Some chose to draw a slide, a teacher, the woodchips, our school and a rock.

Sharing our Families and Homes

Kindergarteners Drew and wrote in their social studies journals last week.  They drew pictures of their family members and labeled who each member was.  They also drew a picture of their homes (I didn't realize a few Kindergarteners have rainbow colored homes!).  Kinders were able to partner up with many friends and share about these important things in their lives.  Look at the pride on those cute faces!
